LE GUINE - GAZZANE - RIFUGIO PIRLO E LA DISCESA DEI LODRONI

We are in Valsabbia, the middle land, and we take you to the discovery of Rifugio Pirlo allo Spino where you will find the warmth you need to face the descent of Lodroni and Degagna. You will pass through one of the largest chestnut groves in Europe wrapped in nature. A tour let's say simple but full of a thousand emotions on bike.

We leave the car in Roè Volciano (260 m ) near the free parking lot in front of the Italmark supermarket and take the main road toward Vobarno. We veer shortly to the right and then immediately to the left where one of the most fearsome climbs in the area begins: namely Gazzane. Don't worry, we won't do it all because after about 600 m we deviate to the right on gippabile and continue, with a few major climbs, toward the Guine. We pass a couple of hunting posts ( we are on CAI trail so in order but always be careful ) and arrive at Agriturismo Il Bagnolo ( 500 m ). Here a short stretch of asphalt and then watch out that on the left starts downhill and then uphill towards Nizzola and Selva. We arrive at San Michele ( 400 m ) and now I would say we will face the final part of the ascent. We pass the Colomber and then begin the ramps to Pirello. Everything will be constant and pedalable: the important thing is to decide on a continuous pace without pulling our necks following the scents of nature. We will gain Pirello ( 1,020 m ) not without effort. Now, however, take a breath: three more ramps and a short up & down section divide you from Spino Pass ( 1,184 m ). Do not be frightened if you see nets for migratory bird control: it is a ritual that has been repeated for years in this area. Last tear and finally the view opens up and continuing in a few moments we arrive at Rifugio Pirlo allo Spino ( 1,140 m ). Check their page for opening times because you will find Fabio and Roberta delighting you with their specialties. A convivial moment not to be missed. After a proper rest we return back to the junction with the entrance to the Lodroni trail. Protectors, helmet and open forks and off we go. Immediately spectacular with a few rocks that are never too challenging then switchbacks, underbrush, a couple of sections with strains and then finally final flow to Fobbiola Pass (975 m ). We turn left and take the entrance to Degagna a loose, wide dirt road. We pass Cascina prato della Noce ( 880 m ) and then off on the road that will take us to San Martino ( 400 m ). Now I know, we will have the last "boring" stretch on asphalt to take us back to Roè Volciano. It's about 10 minutes but it will flow fast remembering the good times we just experienced in our land.
